Satisfied Mind

(j.hayes/j.rhodes)

How many times have you heard someone say
If I had money, I'd do things my way,
But little they know that its so hard to find
One rich man with a satisfied mind.

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
A friend, when you're lonely, or peace to your soul.
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind.

When my life is over and my time has run out.
My friends and my loved ones, I'll leave them no doubt.
But, one things gone for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind.
Satisfied mind.

I just listened to this song as recorded and released, posthumously, by Jeff Buckley. He is, quite simply, one of the most amazing artists I've ever heard. Ben played his CD, Grace for me, several years ago and I was just blown away. A lot of people discovered Jeff after hearing his cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, which is just gorgeous. It has been featured in a number of movies and TV shows, one of the most moving, being an episode of The West Wing. (What season was that Bill?)

At any rate, seldom has the death of an artist made me cry. I cried when Michael Hedges died and I cried when I learned, after hearing him for the first time, that Jeff Buckley was dead too.

You are missed by many, Jeff.
