Good News and Bad News
The
good news is that i have one less USB device to plug into this computer. The bad
news is that the device is my Palm Zire 71 PDA. It finally died today as I
figured it eventually would. A few months after I bought it (on ebay for too
good a price) the connectors on it started to get noticeably flaky. When you put
it on the USB/Charger cradle or cable it would beep like it was connected and
then beep like it wasn't. If I set it just right it would charge and sync, but
many a morning I unplugged it only to find that it hadn't charged at all even
though it made the connect beeping noise and even showed the charging icon. I
guess a dust mite knocked it loose in the middle of the night. Today I tried to
synch it and it could not get a connection, it would start and then it would
lose the connection. I have a cradle and a cable and it wouldn't work with
either. I finally gave up.
My first
reaction was to run out to Circuit City and see what they had to replace it. I
looked there and I looked at Office Max, and I really liked the Tungsten E and
it's not too expensive. I didn't buy another one. The fact of the matter is,
I'm tired of carrying a bunch of junk around with me. I carry the cell phone and
the PDA, a note pad, too many keys and a number of other things all day at
work.
Things I will
miss:
The check book
program.
The appointment calendar (no big deal,
I can have Lotus Notes text message my appointments to
me).
Having pictures that I can carry with me.
(Pics of my sweetie especially.)
Having all my
printer info with me at all times.
Those
are all things I can do without, some more easily than others. I will be just
fine. Well, I'm going to eat some dinner now, as soon as I disconnect the clunky
cradle from my computer and put it in the closet.
